Sign for Baby was created in 2003 by Misty Felner, a certified teacher of the deaf. Misty taught deaf, hearing, and multi-handicapped students for more than 7 years. Her work included teaching the students sign language vocabulary, core curriculum subjects, as well as sign language interpreting. Now Misty is a stay at home mom to her daughters Rachel and Renae.

Misty began signing with her first daughter Rachel when she was between 3 and 6 months. Though she didn’t start signing until she was 11 months old, Rachel could sign more than 200 words by the age of two and was putting together 3-4 sign phrases.

Renae, born August 29, 2007 signed her first sign at  5 1/2 months and by the age of 1 year had almost 40 signs and was putting two signs together.  Currently, at the age of 17 months, Renae signs more than 130 signs.
